Affiliate Disclosure

Which links earn us commission, what that does and does not influence, and our position on paid coverage and free samples.

The short version

Some links on this site earn us a small commission if you buy through them. It costs you nothing extra. It does not change what we recommend, and no manufacturer pays us for coverage.

What that means in practice

We may earn commission when you follow a link from this site to a retailer and make a purchase. Where a page contains such links, the disclosure appears on that page as well as here.

We do not accept payment for coverage, placement or ranking. No manufacturer or retailer can pay to appear on this site, to be recommended, or to have a competitor’s product excluded.

We do not write sponsored posts or publish content supplied by manufacturers.

We do not accept free products in exchange for favourable coverage. If we ever review a product supplied free of charge, that will be stated plainly on the page.

What we do not claim

We do not test tortoise food products, and we say so on every product page. Our product content is based on published compositions, guaranteed analyses and ingredient lists, assessed against specialist and veterinary guidance.

That is a real limitation and we would rather state it than imply hands-on experience we do not have. If that changes, the pages will change with it.

Why product pages exist at all

Commercial pages on this site are there because keepers genuinely need to buy things, particularly through a British winter when forage is unavailable. They are not there because a category converts well.

You will notice that several of our product pages recommend not buying a product: seed rather than a fresh delivery subscription, hay from the horse trade rather than the reptile aisle, and edible flowers rather than anything sold as a treat. That is the honest answer in each case, and it is what an affiliate disclosure is supposed to make credible.

Compliance

This disclosure is made in line with UK consumer protection and advertising rules on identifying commercial content, including guidance from the Competition and Markets Authority and the Advertising Standards Authority on clearly identifying affiliate links.

If you think a disclosure on any page is unclear or missing, tell us through our contact page and we will fix it.

Our wider standards are in the editorial policy and the sources and review policy.
